About EVstring

Every product, a verifiable story: from production to second life to recycling.

We are building the shared record that a circular economy needs: one trustworthy, portable, lifelong digital identity for every product, which every company in the chain can read and write, and none can rewrite. We started with EV batteries.

Why we exist

Batteries outlive the systems that track them.

An EV battery is made in one country, installed in another, serviced by independent workshops, sold with a used vehicle, repurposed for energy storage and finally recycled, often over fifteen years or more. Each hand-off happens between companies that do not share systems, and each one loses information.

The consequences are real: second-life buyers cannot trust health claims, recyclers receive packs with no composition data, and regulators cannot see where batteries end up. Regulation is now catching up, led by the EU's battery passport requirement from February 2027.

EVstring's answer is a shared passport where the data stays with the companies entitled to it, and the proof that it has not been altered is held on a ledger that no single participant controls, including us.

Principles

What we will not compromise on.

Verifiable, not claimed

Every important fact in a passport should be checkable by someone who does not trust us or the company that wrote it.

Private by design

Personal and confidential data never goes on-chain. Proof and privacy are not a trade-off.

Open standards

Standard EVM contracts, EU Annex XIII data categories, and a path to GS1 Digital Link and industry passport models.

Honest scope

We say what is available, what is in development and what is planned, and we do not claim certifications we do not hold.

Where we are

A working platform, ready for pilots.

EVstring is at an early stage. Passports, lifecycles, documents, credentials and analytics work today for five product types; the next capabilities are built in the order pilots need them.

See capabilities
  1. Smart contracts

    Available

Seven contracts: participants, a registry of product types, passports, a generic lifecycle, documents, records and telemetry.

  2. Platform core

    Available

API, transaction queue and chain indexer, with full lifecycles exercised end to end.

  3. Web dashboards & public passport

    Available

Role-based dashboards for every organisation type and the QR-linked public passport page.

  4. Documents, telemetry & carbon

    Available

Encrypted documents with on-chain integrity checks, Merkle-anchored telemetry, and carbon and recycled-content declarations.

  5. Verifiable credentials

    Available

Organisation identities (DIDs) and W3C credentials, such as the recycling licence that gates closing a passport.

  6. Beyond batteries

    Available

One engine for any product with a battery-like lifecycle: EV chargers, solar panels, electronics and textiles ship as templates.

  7. Platform owner panel

    Available

Organisations, product types, credentials and a dashboard of the network’s impact on traceability and circularity.

  8. Hosted pilot environment

    Available

Containerised deployment with its own permissioned chain, backups and automatic rollback.

  9. Field app

    In development

Android app for workshops, installers and recyclers; store release in preparation.

  10. Consortium network

    Roadmap

Validator nodes run by consortium members, a public block explorer, hardened key custody and independent audits.

Looking for pilot partners across the value chain.

We are especially interested in working with manufacturers preparing for the EU passport, fleets and second-life operators who need credible health data, and recyclers who want to evidence recovery. Pilots shape the roadmap directly.

Beyond batteries

Available

One trust layer for every regulated product.

The EU's Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation extends the digital product passport idea well beyond batteries. In EVstring each product type is a versioned definition (fields, lifecycle, who may do what, documents, recovery records) that the smart contracts enforce. The prototype ships five templates; more types are added as data, not code.

  • EV batteries
  • EV chargers
  • Solar panels
  • Consumer electronics
  • Textiles & apparel
