Solutions

One passport, built for every role in the battery value chain.

Each organisation joins EVstring with a single role. The platform shows it exactly the actions it may take and the data it is entitled to see, and the smart contracts enforce the same rules underneath.

Battery manufacturers

Meet passport obligations once, at the source.

Under the EU Battery Regulation the economic operator placing the battery on the market is responsible for its passport. EVstring lets you create it at registration and keep it current for the battery's whole life.

What your role can do

  • Register batteries (MANUFACTURED)
  • Upload composition and carbon documents
  • Transfer custody to the OEM

The challenge today

  • Composition, origin and carbon data spread across PLM, ERP and supplier PDFs.
  • Customers and authorities asking for the same evidence in different formats.
  • No visibility of what happens to your batteries after they leave the factory.

With EVstring

  • One registration creates the passport ID, QR code and on-chain passport token.
  • Public, restricted and regulator tiers handled for you, following Annex XIII.
  • Visibility of lifecycle events for the batteries you made, through to recycling.
  • Fingerprinted certificates that customers can verify themselves.

Regulatory link: EU Regulation 2023/1542: battery passport (Art. 77), carbon footprint (Art. 7), recycled content (Art. 8). Read the summary.

Vehicle OEMs

Traceability from pack to vehicle, without exposing VINs.

OEMs link each battery to the vehicle it is installed in and remain accountable for it through after-sales. EVstring records the installation while keeping vehicle identifiers private.

What your role can do

  • Install into vehicle (INSTALLED)
  • Put into use (IN_USE)
  • Transfer custody to the owner or fleet

The challenge today

  • Pack-to-vehicle mapping held in internal systems partners cannot rely on.
  • Warranty and recall work that depends on complete service history.
  • Pressure to demonstrate responsible end-of-life handling.

With EVstring

  • Installation recorded on-chain with only a salted hash of the VIN.
  • Restricted access to detailed data for the batteries you installed.
  • A history that follows the battery to service centres, second life and recycling.

Regulatory link: Supports extended-producer-responsibility and take-back reporting. See the compliance mapping.

Fleet owners & operators

Prove the health of your batteries and protect residual value.

A battery's value at resale or lease return depends on whether its health history can be believed. EVstring gives fleets a record that buyers, lessors and insurers can verify independently.

What your role can do

  • Hold and transfer custody
  • Put batteries into use
  • Retire batteries with a state-of-health reading

The challenge today

  • Residual values discounted because state-of-health claims cannot be proven.
  • Service records scattered across workshops and regions.
  • No clean hand-off of battery records when vehicles are sold.

With EVstring

  • Hold the passport token for your batteries and transfer it at sale.
  • Service events and health readings recorded by the workshops themselves.
  • Telemetry anchoring (in development) makes state-of-health trends provable.

Regulatory link: State-of-health and expected-lifetime parameters for EV batteries are part of the EU passport data.

Service centres

Log the work, against the right battery, for good.

Workshops are where most battery history is created and most of it is lost. With EVstring, technicians open and close service visits on the battery's passport, so their findings travel with it.

What your role can do

  • Open / close service visits
  • Log service events and state-of-health readings
  • Retire batteries

The challenge today

  • Repair and diagnostic records that stay inside one workshop system.
  • Difficulty accessing dismantling and safety information when needed.
  • Liability questions when a battery's earlier history is unknown.

With EVstring

  • Open and close service visits (IN_USE ⇄ UNDER_SERVICE) with report fingerprints.
  • Restricted access to dismantling and safety documents for authorised workshops.
  • Retire a battery with a diagnostic report when it is no longer fit for vehicle use.

Regulatory link: Persons with a legitimate interest, such as repairers, get access to restricted passport data under Annex XIII.

Second-life operators

Buy retired packs on evidence, not on trust.

Repurposing EV batteries for stationary storage depends on knowing exactly what you are buying. EVstring gives second-life operators a verifiable history before they commit, and a passport that continues once the battery is repurposed.

What your role can do

  • Claim for second life
  • Log health readings in second life
  • Retire again at the end of second life

The challenge today

  • Sellers' state-of-health claims that cannot be checked.
  • Unknown abuse, repair or thermal events in the battery's past.
  • Re-certifying repurposed batteries as new products.

With EVstring

  • Full lifecycle and service history, with on-chain references, before purchase.
  • Claim the battery for second life (RETIRED → SECOND_LIFE) and take custody.
  • Continue logging health readings during second life.

Regulatory link: The EU regulation treats repurposed batteries as newly placed on the market, with their own passport linked to the original.

Recyclers

Close the loop, and prove what you recovered.

Recyclers are where the circular economy is measured. EVstring lets licensed recyclers close a battery's passport and record recovered materials against it, creating evidence that recycled-content declarations can build on.

What your role can do

  • Take custody of retired batteries
  • Mark as recycled
  • Record recovered materials

The challenge today

  • Arriving batteries with no reliable composition or dismantling data.
  • Recovery figures that are hard to evidence to customers and authorities.
  • Recycling-efficiency and material-recovery targets to report on.

With EVstring

  • Restricted access to composition and dismantling information before processing.
  • Recycle the battery (RETIRED → RECYCLED), gated to licensed recyclers.
  • Record kilograms of Li, Co, Ni, Mn, Cu, Al and graphite recovered, on-chain.

Regulatory link: Supports material-recovery and recycled-content reporting under Articles 8 and 71 of Regulation (EU) 2023/1542.

Regulators & auditors

Read the market's battery records directly.

Market surveillance authorities, notified bodies and auditors need complete, trustworthy records without chasing each company for spreadsheets. EVstring gives them a read-only view of everything, with on-chain proof behind it.

What your role can do

  • Read-only access to all data
  • Audit trails and analytics
  • Issue carbon-footprint audit credentials (roadmap)

The challenge today

  • Self-reported data that cannot be independently checked.
  • Fragmented records across manufacturers, fleets and recyclers.
  • Slow, manual audits.

With EVstring

  • Full audit trail of every battery, every event and every acting organisation.
  • Market-wide analytics: batteries by state and chemistry, recovered material totals.
  • Independent verification against the ledger, not the operator's word.

Regulatory link: Annex XIII reserves the most detailed tier for authorities and the Commission. Explore global regulations.

Every role sees the same truth.

A manufacturer, a fleet and a recycler may never meet, yet they all read and write the same passport. That shared, tamper-evident record is what makes a circular battery economy work.
